Collaborative Theatre Writing

Wiki Space for Peter

I took a class entitled "Collaborative Performance and Writing." Here's the original email describing it:

Have you been feeling stuck creatively? Have you been hankering to create original material for the stage, but aren't sure where to begin? Have you been looking to meet people with similar interests but aren't sure where to find them? If any of these easily overcome conditions apply to you, please read on.

Gnap! Theater Projects will be conducting an 8-week long class on collaborative theater creation and experimental writing. The class will be dedicated to limbering up creative muscles, using exercises and games to generate new work, and the pleasures of creating performance pieces in a group environment.

3.22.03:
We all introduced ourselves, warmed up with some improv games, and then started these exercises:

3.29.03:
Note: for next time, I will have to bring in a typewritten piece that I have written outside of class, which I'm not satisfied with. I'm going to bring in Radio Mystery Theatre.

4.5.03:
I was half an hour late. The last-minute picture piece went over better than I expected.

This week, we are each to create a work inspired by an 'exquisite corpse' exercise.

4.12.03:
This week's assignment: a piece from random bits of a magazine.

4.19.03:
Couldn't stay long; had to skeedaddle to choir rehearsal.

This week's assignment: a monolog as a mis-clichéd character.

4.26.03:

In-class work this week: a quick Under-the-Gun-style project.

Our homework: write a monolog about something that annoys you, as a pop-culture icon.

5.3.03:

[Cancelled on account of Shannon's being ill.?

5.10.03

In our last class, we did an in-class piece from a word-at-a-time letter.
