When the Curtain Comes Down

Peter's Comments:
This started out as a deliberate attempt to rip off "Vegetable Row" by Cotton Mather, but as usual, I drifted from my target.

I started throwing in some of the 'things to rip off from the Beatles'. I inserted a gratuitous flat-VII chord into the verses, and very deliberately played with how the backing vocal would work (sometimes absent, sometimes unison, sometimes contrapuntal, etc.). I wrote this without an intro or a chorus, for a structural change of pace.

Other than that it turned into one of those 'big production numbers' with tons of tracks that's kind of a pill to deal with. Fortunately n-track 4 is more or less up to the task, solving the nasty sync problems I was having with version 3. Still, I think my computer is groaning under the memory demands.

Lyrics ended up more creepy and depressing than I wanted -- odd, since I'm in a pretty good mood these days. Ah well. I'll aim for something happier next time. Generally, though, I'm pleased with the result: a plain pop song with some interesting things going on in it.

Next!
