Shuffling Stones

Peter's Comments:
Blugh. This is one that had been festering for a while, and I just wanted to kick it out of the way, as it was jamming up the songwriting queue and preventing the completion of other songs that I actually like. :)

This time I wanted to do just voice and guitar (check) and come up with a different song structure (ended up structurally messy, but check). I also wanted to vary the harmonic rhythm over the course of the song (check -- long stretches just bounce between C and C7).

That said, writing a song to such academic constraints didn't bring out the best in me, with labored-over lyrics from a week or two back that just ended up... mlugh. I like the little chord-progression tricks, but the song just isn't about anything.

Ah well. I have written good songs before. I shall write good songs again. And those good songs may cannibalize chords and bits of melody from this one. :)

p. s. The gratuitous tube-amp effect on the vocals is the result of listening to lots of Cotton Mather lately. It's double-tracked because with just one vocal track, it sounded nauseatingly earnest.
