I Pretend I Have a Cat

Peter's Comments:
Ah well. Disappointing results this week, but I'm still proud that I finished it. Last week I went to a show by a songwriter named Seela (run out & buy her albums!), and she mentioned one song was about her cat. Only she wasn't allowed to have a cat where she was living, so: her pretend cat.

So, the song title of "I Pretend I Have a Cat" got jammed in my head and turned itself into a song of the week. Pretty blah stuff -- I finally erred on the side of way too square and dull as far as my harmonies and rhythms go. Still, I enjoyed the wee key changes in the bridge, and I liked setting the verse melody (offset by a bar or two) against the last chorus.

Note to self in future, do not write songs about cats. After about the twentieth person says, "Yeah, that reminds me of that one song from Friends," and starts singing Phoebe's "Smelly Cat" song , you will go postal.
