"... Ask what you can do for No Shame"

Current complains about No Shame

• Too little variety of formats.

  • No Shame feels like about 90% monologues. I like monologues as much as the next guy, but it doesn't even scrape the surface of the potential of this forum, and it is a bit of the "soup, followed by soup, with a chaser of soup" phenomenon.

• Too inside.

  • The skit about last week's skit and that guy that keeps doing that thing at No Shame is funny but self-indulgent.
  • To me it kind of makes it feel less like creating art and more like joking around with a clique
  • Also it makes it harder for outsiders to feel welcome or entertained by No Shame
• ???

Those same points, put constructively

• Could have more variety.

  • No Shame can have any sort of performance art we can write. As such, it can have almost mind-blowing variety. It can be a much more interesting and thought-provoking show.

  • What we can do to fix this:

    • Contribute new formats to the show

      • Songs
      • Filmed pieces
      • Two-, three-, or four-hander theatrical pieces
      • Get MattVance to do a juggling piece
      • Dance

      • Five-Minute Game Show

        • (This could be a good way to workshop DoItYourselfGameShow.)

• Could be less 'inside.'

  • No Shame could comment more on the outside world, and even generate ideas/skits/performance pieces with 'escape velocity' -- i. e. it could become a piece performed outside of No Shame, in spite of having started there.

  • What we can do to fix this:

    • Create pieces with outside reference

      • Current events
      • Generic 'high-concept' sketches
      • (Also, we can try to contribute pieces that are striking enough to become additional 'inside' No Shame references -- so even if the monologues continue to be a bit navel-contemplative, at least the No Shame internal mythology is a little more rich.
