What to Name the Next Longform
The Problem
In August, the
Heroes are doing a new long-form show.
The current working title is "Story, Story."
This title sucks. We need a new title.
Title Criteria
The title for the long-form show should accomplish the following:
Sound memorable
- ... because otherwise nobody will remember that the show even exists.
- A cool-sounding title would be generally good for morale.
Make the show seem attractive.
- Furthermore, if the title actually makes the show sound good, we have some hope of getting an audience.
Convey what the show is.
- Ideally, the title will let the audience know what kind of show to expect.
What is this Show, Anyway?
This is a freewheeling, rapidly-turning over succession of short scenes. Over time, various characters recur over various scenes, and soon, a plot starts rearing its head out of the muck. Ideally, the plot gets resolved by the end, leaving a few abandoned loose ends in its wake.
Title Suggestions and Comments
Soylent Theatre
- Natural tag-line: "It's made of people."
Suggestions from Jay
Quoted from Jay's Email:
Anything Goes! - A roller coaster ride of improv proportions. A must for thrill seekers and entertainment lovers. Don't eat the triple cheese chili nachos before this show!
Pluses for this name - very catchy, really captures the essense of the show.
Drawbacks - there is apparently some sort of musical with this name, which may throw people off.
Reality Improv - Cameras from around the world have captured hundreds of hours of video of people caught unawares doing the most outrageous things. Come see what you shouldn't have via the magic of improv!
Pluses - "Reality" tv is a pretty big draw on TV.
Drawbacks - We're not really doing reality TV, or even a spoof of it, so there may be expectation let down.
Channel Surfing - Worn out the up button on your remote? Can't focus on a sentence longer than nine words? This show is for you! Welcome to attention deficit improv, where the whirlwind of scenes and action will leave you wondering what happened to your pants.
Pluses - Captures the fast paced scene changes.
Drawbacks - We're not really doing TV genre spoofs, which this name implies.
Spin the Bottle (thanks Monique!) - Take a chance, spin the bottle and see what mayhem insues. Our improvisors dare to improvise a show created entirely from audience suggestions, but you never know where it will end!
Pluses - Elements of randomness and risk taking. Would be amusing and easy to incorporate a spining bottle in the beginning (to choose who starts the first scenes?)
Drawbacks - Isn't this some sort of adolescent kissing game? I was never cool enough to actually play it. I am reminded of my young angst, drawn to the illicit, yet fearful of it. Will this draw an audience, or will they just take a quick peek and disappear? Am I reading too much into this?
X-prov (or, Improv-X) - The next level of improv. A full longform based on audience suggestions. No net. No safeties. Just pure, unbridled improv. If you love life like we do, you will love this show.
Pluses - Everything is cooler when you put an X in it.
Drawbacks - Somewhat generic, and perhaps people will think this will be porn-prov. Or is that Improv-XXX? Or does that mean we're poisonous? XXX-prov!
