Online Privacy PSAs for St. Ed's
BobApthorpe is putting together a series of PSAs designed to educate St. Ed's students about online security & privacy.
Current Status: FIRST DRAFTS DONE.
Now we'd like to see if any of our friends would be into directing them.
Current Scripts
The four we're going with at the moment:
1.
TMI girl.
A girl posts details about her home address and when she'll be out of town. Someone breaks into her apartment.
2.
An interview goes badly.
An interviewer asks an applicant a series of embarrassing questions based on information he's posted to his web page.
3.
Where spyware comes from.
A man sees 'free screensavers' in a park. He gets a screensaver, but winds up handcuffed to a creepy clown.
4.
419 scams
A girl checks her email, reads about a wildly-improbable 419 scam, and assumes it's real.
Other Ideas
- Identity theft: A Russian mobster steals the identity of a petite teenage girl.
- A date goes badly: the girl has a girlfriend background-check the guy online, and then call her on her cell.
- ???
Format Considerations
- 30 seconds in duration
- Always open with closeup of a character's fingers typing, followed by a (brief) shot of the relevant web page.
Each episode ends with two title cards...
- 1. "FACT: <blah blah blah>"
- 2. "Be careful online. (For more information, see <URL>)"
- After that, there's a three-second 'tag' and a blackout.
Our Step-By-Step Process
1. Write scripts
1b. Revise to our satisfaction.
2. Contact somebody like Chris about directing one of them. (whichever one interests him)
2b. Possibly use St. Ed's editing facilities?
2c. Sort out scoring.
