Tandem Charleston
February 24, 2004
Peter attended a workshop on Tandem Charleston on February 24, 2004.
Entrance
- Start in right-hand cross hold.
- 1 & 2: Rock step back (CCW) on left
3 & 4: Kick left foot
- On the three, block the follow with your right hand and send her back.
- 5 & 6: Rock step back (CCW) on left
7 & 8: Kick left foot
- As you do this, get into Tandem Charleston position.
Basic
- Same footwork as Charleston
- Keep a bounce in your footwork
- As usual, swing your hands opposite to your footwork
Your hands support the follow's hands
- Don't force the follow's hands up
- Her hands should be at her center, but let her keep her hands where she wants them.
- You should be hunched over a bit, but don't be creepy.
Variation 1: Half-turn
Variation 2: Full turn
- 1 - 4: Same as Variation 1
5 & 6: Right hand continues to lead
- Kick right foot out to your right.
- 7 & 8: Repeat 5 & 6, bringing the follow back into the normal position
Variation 3: Sendout
- 1 & 2: Same as basic, except you place your left hand on the lower left part of the follow's back.
- 3: Same as basic, except give the follow a strong push forward with your left hand as you go forward.
- 4: Follow goes away and back.
5 & 6: Kick right foot out to the right
- 5: Hit full extension in a right-hand cross-hold
- 6: boing -- the follow comes back towards you
7 & 8: Repeat kick
- As you do this, the follow completes a rotation putting her back in the normal position.
Exit to Skaters
- 1: Step out and to the left on the left foot.
2: Step together with the right foot.
- Note that you end up on the follow's left
- Also transfer your right hand to the follow's back
- 3 - 8: Same footwork as Tandem Charleston, only in the new position
Exit from Skaters
- 1 & 2: Rock-step back/CCW
3 & 4: Kick step left foot
- Travel CW
- End up traveling under the follow's right hand
- Shift right hand slightly to accommodate the new hold
- 5: Step right, start sending out (same as lindy basic)
- 6: Step left (same as lindy basic)
- 7 & 8: Triple-step right (same as lindy basic)
Footnotes
1
My own convention: the starting position for the swingout is 0º, and the angle increases in the CW direction.
